See through the Avidya

作品圍繞「我」觀望以往的「我」與被凝視者的操作方式,如何成就當下之先驗(A priori)結構影響思考。受到德國哲學家胡塞爾所提出的現象學(phenomenology)以及拉岡的鏡像理論(the mirror stage)影響,試圖解構出「我」如何不斷重複審視同一表像而從中獲得啟發或覺察出思緒變化。

 

「視出」,指出凝視的過程,以及當時凝結的時間所產生的念。

「無明」,佛家術語,意指對真理的不理解⽽而產⽣煩惱的狀態。

 

視出,在作品中意譯為透過重複審視的過程,⾯對期望所產⽣的落差而逐漸把執念放下⽽嘗試以⼤同理解眾生,重複的審視,猶如⻄藏⼀種稱為頂禮/磕長頭的禮佛⽅式, 通過不斷重複的動作進行修行。 同時視出亦與釋出同音,意指創作者對此作品完成後所產⽣出之結果:釋出心中無明。

 

期望觀者可以觀察鐳射、光以及介質的變化,打在不同面上反射所產生的影像,而了解自我顯影對覺察視物本質的阻礙/雜訊。把現象學跟鏡像理論混合操作以圖解構思路之變化過程。

The work revolves around the concept of "me" observing the past "me" and the actions of the observed, exploring how the present is shaped by a priori structures. Influenced by German philosopher Husserl's phenomenology and Lacan's mirror stage theory, it attempts to deconstruct how the "me" repeatedly examines the same image to gain inspiration and become aware of changes in thought.

"See through" refers to the process of gazing and the thoughts generated during the frozen moment of that time.

"Avidya" is a Buddhist term that signifies a state of agitation caused by not understanding the truth.

In the work, "See through" is translated as the process of repeated examination, gradually letting go of attachment in the face of the discrepancy between expectations and reality, and attempting to understand all beings through a unified perspective. The act of repeated examination is akin to the Buddhist practice of prostration, a form of reverence and devotion performed through constant repetition. At the same time, "See through" sounds similar to "release" in Chinese. Indicating the result that the creator experiences after the completion of the work: the release of ignorance from the mind.

The expectation is for the viewers to observe the changes in lasers, light, and media, the images produced through reflection on different surfaces, and to comprehend the obstruction/noise caused by self-representation in perceiving the essence of objects. By blending phenomenology with mirror stage theory, the aim is to deconstruct the process of change in thinking.
